Hokkien Kongsi 157th Anniversary Dinner  at Zhonghua Restaurant, Cititel Hotel, Penang on Saturday, 17th August 2013

On behalf of the Board of Trustees of Hokkien Kongsi, Penang, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you for attending our 157th Anniversary Dinner.

We have been entrusted by the Hokkien Community since 1856 to look after the following 5 temples in Penang:-

Hock Hin Keong (Snake Temple) in Sungei Kluang
Cheng Leong Keong (Tai Tay Yah) in Jelutong
Kim Hoe Keong & Siew Thean Keong in Jalan Dato Keramat
Seng Hong Beow in Jalan C. Y. Choy
Chooi Bee Keong in Jalan Tanjung Tokong

Presently our monthly income is about Rm25,000/- per month and we use this income to maintain, repair and restore the 5 temples.

In 1980, we built the Kuan Yin Hall in Snake Temple for Rm200,000/-.  In 2006 we spent Rm800,000/- on a major restoration of Snake Temple (Rm500,000/- from our funds, Rm200,000/- from a major donor and Rm100,000/- from Federal funding).
In the 1990s we spent Rm200,000/- each restoring Kim Hoe Keong/Siew Thean Keong in Jalan Dato Keramat and Chooi Bee Keong in Jalan Tanjung Tokong.

Last year we spent Rm200,000/- repairing and rebuilding the back portion of Seng Hong Beow.  We are now planning to restore the front portion of Seng Hong Beow and build a 2-storey building cum opera stage opposite the temple.  To date we have received Rm47,000/- from devotees and well wishers.

We have checked the 5 Temples and realize that Cheng Leong Keong (Tai Tay Yah) in Jelutong needs major repair and renovation.  The estimated cost is about Rm900,000/-.  We would like to appeal to the State Government for help in this major project.   To-date we have received Rm31,000/- from devotees and well wishers.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the trustees of Hokkien Kongsi, Penang for their invaluable support and help in maintaining these 5 temples.

My thanks to you too for taking time off from your busy schedule to come and celebrate our 157th Anniversary Dinner with us.

Kamsiah.
